Brett Goldstein writes new Apple TV+ comedy

Shrinking reunites him with Ted Lasso co-creator Bill Lawrence

Brett Goldstein is writing a new comedy for  Apple TV+ with his Ted Lasso colleague Bill Lawrence.

They are joining forces with How I Met Your Mother star Jason Segel for the new series, called Shrinking.

In it, Segel will play a grieving therapist, who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks, regardless of professional ethics, causing huge changes to people’s lives.

The premise has some parallels to Ricky Gervais’s Netflix series After Life, when his character Tony also starts speaking his mind bluntly after the death of his wife.

Goldstein, Segel and Ted Lasso co-creator Lawrence are all writes and executive producers on the ten-part series.

It has not yet been announced whether Goldstein – who earlier this month won an Emmy for playing  Roy Kent in the sports comedy – will have an onscreen role in Shrinking.

Apple ordered the series from producers Warner Bros TV without a pilot.
