Comedians offer their parenting tips in a new book for dads

Author George Lewis shares advice from his comedy peers

Stand-ups including Iain Stirling, Josh Widdicombe, Kerry Godliman and Romesh Ranganathan are contributing parenting advice to a humorous new book from fellow comic George Lewis.

Don’t Panic! All the Stuff The Expectant Dad Needs To Know is billed as ‘the essential book for new dads, preparing them for the confusing, emotional ‐ and funny ‐ rollercoaster ahead’.

Lewis was a finalist in BBC Radio New Comedy Award  of 2016, has written for Have I Got News For You and 8 Our Of 10 Cats, pens the weekly football column Funny Old Game in The Times and hosted Top Gear Extra
Gear (which he hosted), Celebrity Mastermind.

He said: ‘Becoming a dad is the most brilliant, terrifying and confusing thing you’ll ever experience and most of us go into it not having a clue what we’re doing.

‘There’s a few good books on the market that tell you how to sterilise a bottle and change a nappy, but they don’t really prepare you for how it feels to be a dad. That advice came from my mates.

‘So, that’s what this book is ‐ a book full of all the practical AND emotional stuff your mates would tell you, with the help of some of mine. I’ve got to admit that it does really help that a lot of my mates are comedians though!’

Other comics sharing their experiences in the book are Adam Kay, Andy Parsons, Carl Donnelly, Elis James, Ivo Graham, Jen Brister, Matt Crosby, Rich Hall, Russell Kane and Sindhu Vee.

The book will be published by Monoray on February 3 next year.

Publisher Jake Lingwood, who signed the deal with Lewis’s agents Off The Kerb, said: ‘A new parenting classic for dads seems to come around about every 10 years – and this is the new dad on the block. George has absolutely nailed the art of combining friendly, accessible, good advice, with being laugh‐out‐loud funny. I look forward to Don’t Pabic! selling for years and years to come.’
