Stalker banned from Al Murray's gigs

A stalker who spent years harassing Al Murray has been banned from attending his live gigs.

Lucy Bird, 46, sent unwanted letters and parcels to the Pub Landlord comedian and told him: ‘I know where you live.’

Her actions – including repeatedly trying to get backstage on Murray’s tours and obtaining photos - were so unsettling that her photo was circulated to security staff at all Murray’s gigs.

In a statement to Northampton Magistrates' Court, Murray, 52, said: ‘This contact is causing me distress’ and that ‘targeting my family was completely wrong’. He added that her actions ‘wrecked my experience with social media’.

Bird pleaded guilty to three counts of harassment and one count of stalking when she appeared before magistrates, it has been widely reported. She was  handed a 16 week jail term suspended for two years.

Bird reportedly told the court she became obsessed with Murray following her marriage breakdown nine years ago and vowed: ‘I can’t stop fancying him but I can stop my behaviours.’
