Dave Chappelle has cancelled a string of £250-a-head gigs after testing positive for Covid-19.

The comic was to play four socially-distanced gigs at the outdoor Waller Creek Amphitheatre in Austin, Texas this weekend.

However, a test before the shows revealed that the had the coronavirus, although he was not showing any symptoms.

The shows tonight and tomorrow also featured Joe Rogan, while gigs on Sunday and Tuesday were billed as Dave Chappelle and Friends.

Promoted by Live Nation, tickets cost $1,400 for a table of four, equivalent to £255 a person - plus taxes (£15 for Texas sales tax) and fees.

In a statement, the comic’s representatives said: ‘Dave Chappelle is quarantined after testing positive for Covid-19.

‘His remaining shows at Stubbs Waller Creek Amphitheater in Austin, TX have been cancelled and ticket holders should contact their point of purchase for refunds.

‘Chappelle has safely conducted socially-distanced shows in Ohio since June 2020 and he moved those shows to Austin during the winter.

‘Chappelle implemented Covid-19 protocols which included rapid testing for the audience and daily testing for himself and his team. His diligent testing enabled him to immediately respond by quarantining, thus mitigating the spread of the virus. Chappelle is asymptomatic.'
