Comic makes his dancing debut

Bill Bailey came third from bottom in the Strictly leaderboard as he made his debut on the show last night.

But the comic is safe from eviction as there is no public vote in the first week of the competition

He and Oti Mabuse scored 15 points for their cha cha to South African hit Pata Pata by Miriam Makeba, well behind the 25 points given leaders HRVY and Janette Manrara.

They were hammered by Craig Revel Horwood who gave just three points despite praising their energy. His ruling clearly surprised the comic, who couldn't help himself uttering: ‘Three?!'

Horwood  had told Bailey: ’I think you’ve created a whole new dance genre with that one, love, like dancing on hot coals after a dozen double espressos.’

Oti’s sister Motsi gave the pair six points and said: ‘You two are a whole mood, guys… You did a great job - talk about commitment [but] we have to work on the technique’.

Shirley Ballas thought Bailey’s commitment ‘was inspiring for every man watching – you were a power rocket for sure’ but that added his posture needs work.

Bailey also used his musical skills in the dance, starting behind a keyboard and incorporating drums into the lively routine:
