A Dad's Army tour, do you think that's wise?

Cast of Lost Episodes were in talks about a live show

The cast who recreated the lost Dad’s Army episodes have been asked to go on tour with a live version of the show.

However Kevin McNally, who played Captain Mainwaring, says the coronavirus lockdown might have put the kibosh on the plans ‘for a very long time’.

Last year, he was part of the ensemble who recreated episodes of the classic sitcom that had been wiped from the archive for the Gold network.

The cast - which also included  Robert Bathurst as Sergeant Wilson, Kevin Eldon as Lance Corporal Jones, Tom Rosenthal as Private Pike  and Mathew Horne as Private Walker – were praised for capturing the spirit of the original actors.

McNally told the Radio Times: ‘There was talk that we’d do it as a stage show but the way things are now it’s doubtful that will happen - at least not for a very long time anyway.’

As with the TV series, the plan was to use original scripts by writers Jimmy Perry and David Croft, with McNally adding: ‘It would take a very brave person to write new ones.’

There is already a live show based on the exploits of the Warmington-on-Sea Home Guard, with David Benson and Jack Lane performing all the characters in three episodes of the sitcom, script in front of them like a radio recording, in the Dad’s Army Radio Show.

That tour is scheduled to resume in September.
