Two Doors Down gets a fifth series

BBC Two recommissions Scottish suburban sitcom

BBC Two's suburban sitcom Two Doors Down is to return for a fifth series, the corporation has announced.

Arabella Weir, Alex Norton, Elaine C Smith, Doon Mackichan, Jonathan Watson, Jamie Quinn, Kieran Hodgson, Graeme 'Grado' Stevely and Joy McAvoy are all returning to the fictional Glaswegian street of Latimer Crescent.

Two Doors Down started as a New Year Eve special for BBC One Scotland in 2013 and picked up for a BBC Two series across the whole UK from 2016.

The new series of six episodes will be shot once lockdown restrictions are lifted and is expected to air next year.

Series four, which aired in January and February last year, attracted around 1.7million viewers per episode

Shane Allen, the BBC's controller of comedy commissioning, said the show 'rubs shoulders with The Royle Family and Gavin & Stacey as a firm and long-lasting sitcom favourite'.

He added: 'The writing is so precise, the characters burst with comic vitality and the performances are a masterclass in comedy delivery.'

Steven Canny, executive producer with BBC Studios, said: 'We've been cruelly torturing poor Beth and Eric for the last seven years and couldn't be more delighted about having another go.'

All previous episodes – written by Simon Carlyle and Gregor Sharp – are now on Player, where it has amassed a total of 26.8million requests.
