Apple renews comedy series, despite the question mark over shooting

Apple TV is to make a second series of its comedy Trying, star Rafe Spall has revealed.

The news comes just a few days after the show – the new streaming platform’s first British scripted commission – launched.

Spall stars alongside Esther Smith as a couple of 30-something Londoners who try for adoption after realising they’re unable to have children themselves.

And speaking to Hollywood bible Variety he said: 'We’re hoping to do it at the end of the summer/fall period. With a bit of luck, we might get there. I’d go on set tomorrow if I were allowed.’

The actor also praised the money the tech giant lavished on the show, saying: ‘What money gives you is time. You are able to cover scenes properly; to spend more time making it look nice rather than getting the day finished.’

Smith has also confirmed the recommission, and that the shooting schedule will be affected by lockdown.

‘We’ve been commissioned for a second series, which I’m really thrilled about,’  she told Metro. ‘We should be starting in the summer, but who knows what the world’s going to be looking like.

‘I just want to do it all over again, I could just keep doing it – there's so much scope,’ she added.

Trying is made by BBC Studios and  is written by Andy Wolton
