SOUTHAMPTON: Our showcases of the best student comedians continue this week, at the Bridge Bar in Southampton Student Union today, at the New Adelphi Theatre at Salford University on Tuesday, then at James College, York, on Friday.

Tuesday February 25

LONDON: The Vault Festival continues beneath Waterloo Station all week - our pick is the three-night run of Max & Ivan's Commitment kicking off tonight, as the duo tell a tightly-scripted and very funny tale of getting their boyhood band back together. Review

Wednesday February 26

LONDON: Forgiveness is a thought-provoking show from compelling stand-up Chris McGlade about the murder of his father – and from an authentic voice of an older working-class bloke too rarely heard on the circuit. He comes to the Soho Theatre from now until Saturday.

Thursday February 27

LONDON: Powerful comedy agency Off The Kerb Showcase some of their acts at the Blackheath Halls, with the insightful veteran Mark Steel alongside young up-and-comers Huge Davies, Marlon Davis and Louise Young.

CHELMSFORD: A good old comedy-variety night at the Lion Inn tonight, with magician Mandy Muden, silly prop merchants Raymond & Mr Timpkins Revue, and old-school Catskills character Sol Bernstein.

Friday February 28

BRIGHTON: Raymond & Mr Timpkins are at the Komedia this weekend, as part of another strong bill that includes classy Jen Brister, provocative millennial Ed Night and the regular, quick-thinking MC Stephen Grant.

ST IVES: The middle-class angst of Hal Cruttenden will be entertaining the people of Cambridgeshire, alongside the social commentary of Sophie Duker and playful anecdote-peddlar Jack Barry.
