Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s new show is coming to the UK

HBO's Run to air on Sky's new comedy channel

Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s next comedy, Run, is coming to British TV, thanks to Sky's new comedy channel.

Run, written by her Fleabag collaborator Vicky Jones, has just been announced as part of the line-up for Sky Comedy, a new channel for US programming which launches on Monday.

The show is about ex-lovers who made a pact 15 years ago that if they ever needed to escape life, they could send each other a simple text message – ‘RUN’ – and impulsively disappear together.

Merritt Wever plays a woman called Ruby, who is living a humdrum existence until she receives that text, while Domhnall Gleeson stars as Billy Johnson, a successful life guru from a wealthy Irish family.

Waller-Bridge, who is also one of the executive producers, will have a recurring role as a character named Flick.

The show is being made for HBO in the States, which has a content deal with the new Sky channel, along with NBC and Showtime.

No launch date for the show has yet been announced, either in the US or the UK>

Sky Comedy will air the next series of Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm and Ballers starring Dwayne Johnson as an American football manager, as well as  Saturday Night Live, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and The Late Late Show with James Corden.

Other new shows heading for the channel include:

Mrs Fletcher:  A comedy about a divorced woman (Transparent’s Kathryn Hahn) who jumpstarts her love life by adopting a sexy new persona.

The Righteous Gemstones: The new show from Eastbound & Down and Vice Principals creator Danny McBride tells of a famous televangelist family with a long tradition of deviance and greed. He also plays lead character Jesse Gemstone, who sees himself as a maverick expanding the empire his father  Eli (John Goodman) built up.

A.P. Bio: A disgraced Harvard philosophy professor is forced to return to Toledo, Ohio, to work as an advanced placement biology teacher. But rather than impart knowledge, he uses the class to getting revenge on his rival.  Comic Patton Oswalt co-stars as the school principal.

Sunnyside: About Garrett Modi, a former New York City councilman, who finds his calling when faced with immigrants in need of his help and in search of the American Dream

Box sets on the channel will include Will & Grace, 30 Rock and Parks And Recreation.
