Newcomer scoops RTE's Stand Up And Be Funny title

Sinéad Quinlan has won Irish TV's Stand Up And Be Funny talent hunt.

The 26-year-old from Carrignavar, County Cork, took the crown and the €1,000 first prize on Ray D'Arcy's RTÉ show last night.

Quinlan, who entered the competition after having performed just two gigs, saw off competition from fellow finalists Jasmin Gleeson, Michael Rice and Justine Stafford.

As part of her prize, she also has the opportunity to develop an online comedy pilot.

Hundreds of would-be comedians applied for the competition, with the finalists chosen from three regional eats plus a wildcard chosen by the public.
