Student Comedy Award 2019: Meet the first finalists

Four triumph at the semi No.1

The first four finalists in the 2019 Chortle Student Comedy Award have been named.

At the first semi-final last night, the following acts were selected to go through to the final at the Edinburgh Fringe.

  • Erika Ehler, a 21-year-old comedy writing & performance student at Salford university, who describes her comedy as ‘deadpan and dark’. 
  • Finlay Christie, 19, who is studying language and culture at University College London 
  • Mamoun Elagab, a 23-year-old politics student at Goldsmiths who has previously been in the final of the BBC New Comedy Award and will be taking part in the Pleasance Reserve at this year’s Fringe.
  • Rosa Handscomb, 20, from Lancashire, ab  English and classical studies undergraduate at Bristol, who uses a saxophone in her set.

The second semi-final will take place at the Bill Murray in Islington, North London, from 8pm next Monday. Tickets are available here.

All the finalists will also perform a showcase gig at the Latitude festival in Suffolk on the weekend of July

And tickets to the final, in Pleasance One at the Edinburgh Fringe at 10.15pm on August 12, are available here. The show will again be hosted by Mark Watson.
