Filming starts on Scarborough

BBC One's new comedy with Jason Manford

Filming has begun today on BBC One’s new comedy Scarborough.

Written and directed by Benidorm creator Derren Litten, the series revolves around a band of residents of the North Yorkshire seaside town ‘bonded by family, friendship and their love of karaoke’.

The cast includes Jason Manford alongside Coronation Street’s Catherine Tyldesley, Stephanie Cole  and  Maggie Ollerenshaw from  Still Open All Hours, Steve Edge  from Phoenix Nights and Brookside’s Claire Sweeney.

Litten says: ‘Even though I’ve stuck close to themes I clearly love – the seaside, pubs and karaoke – Scarborough is unlike anything I’ve written before.

‘I’m genuinely flattered by the calibre of actors my scripts have attracted and I can’t wait for BBC audiences to get caught up in the laughter, love and intrigue I’ve created all set against the backdrop of this beautiful North Yorkshire fishing town.’

Manford and Tyldesley play Mike and Karen, a middle-aged couple giving their relationship another go, five years after they split because Mike’s ambition to become a professional entertainer meant that he was never at home. Now he has realised what’s actually important to him  and wants to give their relationship another go.
