First book from comic John Robertson

‘It’s wonderfully violent - and it's allegedly for children'

Comedian John Robertson has written his first novel.

The Little Town Of Marrowville is aimed at children and is about two youngsters happy to be orphaned when their brutish father, a professional bully is ‘turned into mince’ by a sinister duo.

Hunted by the police and their father's gang, the siblings find some new friends to help keep them safe in a word of myths and monsters: a talented burglar and a sword-wielding assassin

Robertson – best known for his live adventure show The Dark Room – said the book was ‘the funniest thing I’ve ever written’.

‘It's been my life's dream to write a novel, and they let me,’ he added. ‘It’s wonderfully violent - and it's allegedly for children. I wrote it as something for everyone, so adults without kids, moody teenagers, parents, children - there's something in there for each of ye.’

The title, illustrated by Louis Ghibault, is published by Penguin on August 1. Click here to pre-order.
