Judge Romesh AND a new predictions programme

Two Romesh Ranganathan TV shows have been renewed, Chortle can reveal – one of them before it’s even aired.

Sky One has ordered a 2019 edition of his predictions gameshow, Romesh Looks Back To The Future, before this year’s special goes out.

And his Dave show Judge Romesh, in which he arbitrates on disputes, has been renewed for a second series.

Romesh Looks Back To The Future involves a panel of celebrities making predictions about the events of the following 12 months, then reconvening at the end of the year to see how accurate they were.

Katherine Ryan, Richard Osman and Danny Dyer are taking part in this year’s 90-minute special, having recorded their predictions in January. They will record the follow-up next month.

However, producers have revealed that there’s a twist: state-of-the-art technology will transform the initial recordings into holograms, so each celebrity will be paired with the earlier version of themselves.

We can reveal that a further episode with new guests will be recorded at the start and end of next year, too.

Meanwhile, Judge Romesh will return after the first ten-part series was a success for Dave this summer.

The series, which co-starred  Tom Davis as the court bailiff and Kerry Howard as the clerk, launched with 297,000 overnight viewers, up on the 219,000 slot average.

However it did particularly well with on-demand viewers, with episodes available via UKTV Play a week before broadcast. Consolidated viewing figures show figures of around 400,000 viewers an episode.

Both shows are made by Hungry Bear Media, which also makes Alan Carr's Happy Hour and All Round To Mrs Brown's.

The news comes as the prolific comedian's sitcom The Reluctant Landlord airs on Sky One.

He is currently recording a second series of the BBC's Misadventures of Romesh Ranaganathan in Mongolia, while he and Rob Beckett have recently been pictured at a series of high-profile music and sporting event, ahead of their Sky interview series Rob & Romesh Meet.

Free audience tickets for Romesh Looks Back To The Future are available here.
