Marcus Brigstocke joins the police

...for a new Channel 4 reality series

Marcus Brigstocke is to join the police in a new Channel 4 reality show.

The comedian is one of the celebrities joining Cambridgeshire Constabulary for the show, which has the working titled Famous and Fighting Crime.

He will be responding to real 999 calls, working in custody and CID,  and taking part in drugs raids

And  maybe all those years dealing with rowdy comedy club audiences will stand him in good stead when it comes to trying to keeping order in city centres at the weekend.

Brigstocke tweeted today: 'This was a fascinating, humbling and sometimes frightening experience. Huge thanks to Cambridgeshire Police and Channel4 for making it happen. I hope people enjoy it. It certainly defied my expectations.'

Also taking part are TV presenter Katie Piper, Loose Women panellist Penny Lancaster, Made in Chelsea’s Jamie Laing and Gogglebox star Sandi Bogle.

For the four hour-long shows, the celebrities will join the army of 12,000 volunteer special constables – who have all the powers of a warranted police officer but only work in their spare time.

Lee McMurray, commissioning editor for formats at Channel 4 said,: ‘We’re delighted to have secured such a smart, diverse cast of famous faces for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, which will not only provide Channel 4 viewers with fascinating insights into the realities of modern policing, but also allow them to see some of their favourite household names in a new and surprising light.’

Edmund Coulthard, executive producer from Blast! Films added: ‘As police budgets go down, and the pressures on police forces go up, our celebrities are joining the thousands of volunteers risking everything on the frontline of policing today.

‘It’s certain to be a life-changing experience – no one can predict the criminals or the crimes they’ll encounter.’
