Chris Addison and Will Smith create new fantasy comedy

'Warlock Holmes' has a broadcast deal

British comics Chris Addison and Will Smith are working on a fantasy detective series  described as ‘Princess Bride meets Game of Thrones’.

Their new project has the working title Warlock Holmes, Hollywood website Deadline reports.

The pair have worked together on Armando Iannucci’s political comedy Veep, with Addison directing a number of episodes and Smith part of the writing team.

Details of the project are scant, but Deadline says that it is being made by Avalon Television, with a British broadcaster lined up to broadcast it.

Warlock Holmes is already the title of a series of comic sci-fi detective novels from author and comedian G.S. Denning, and it is not known if the new show is linked.

Addison has just finished directing The Hustle, a female-led remake of  Dirty Rotten Scoundrels that stars Rebel Wilson and Anne Hathaway.

He will also direct the period comedy-drama Hallelujah!, about composer George Frederick Handel, starring  Ralph Fiennes.

Smith’s other writing credits include Jo Brand’s social services comedy Damned and David Mitchell and Robert Webb’s  series Back.
