Two shows to air this summer

BBC Two is to showcase the best of Asian stand-up over two nights in August

Mash Report frontman Nish Kumar will front The Big Asian Stand-Up, which is being filmed at theCity Varieties Music Hall in Leeds tomorrow night.

Tez Ilyas, Emily Lloyd Saini and Ahir Shah are among those taking part in the two half-hour shows.

Previously the BBC’s Asian Network has recorded stand-up nights for radio, with the video being made available on iPlayer.

But the higher-profile programme has been commissioned as part of a season called The Big British Asian Summer, which also includes  Meera Syal going back to the Black Country mining village where she grew up to describe how it inspired the coming-of-age novel  and subsequent film Anita And Me.

Free tickets for tomorrow’s recording are available here. The show had to be switched to 4.30pm to avoid clashing with the England semi-final.
