Stand-up pilots a comedy take on Watchdog

Joe Lycett is piloting a new consumer affairs show that offers a comic twist on the likes of Watchdog.

In it, the comic will deliver ‘a hilarious dose of consumer justice on behalf of the people of Great Britain’, producers say. And a celebrity guest will also bring along their personal consumer gripe for Lycett to address.

The comic has long made a feature of escalating petty arguments into surreal epics in his work. A  video of him on 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown describing how he contested a parking fine has been viewed more than two million times on YouTube alone, while his 2016 book  Parsnips, Buttered collected many of his absurd complaints letters and their responses. A not-for-broadcast run-through of the show, which has the working title  The Naughty Step, is due to be recorded in London next Thursday. Free audience tickets are available here.
