Matt Lucas to star in Me And My Girl

New stage production in Chichester

Matt Lucas is to take the lead in a new stage production of Me And My Girl.

The former Little Britain star  will play Bill Snibson, the Cockney barrow boy who discovers he’s an earl, in the show at Chichester Festival Theatre.

He will be appearing alongside Men Behaving Badly’ Caroline Quentin, who plays the Duchess.

The theatre’s  artistic director Daniel Evans, Chichester’s artistic director, says: ‘The musical is rooted firmly in the British music hall tradition and the part of Bill Snibson, our working class hero, requires an actor with funny bones, effortless wit and an innate charm.

‘Matt has these in spades. I can’t wait to see how his unique, inventive comedic talent lights up our main stage.’

The show – with music by Noel Gay and which Stephen Fry helped revive as a writer in the 1980s –   runs from July 2 to August 25.

Chichester Festival Theatre is also presenting  Tracy-Ann Oberman and Rufus Hound in Noel Coward’s comedy Present Laughter from April 20 to May 12.
