Finally! Cradle To Grave is returning

Danny Baker reveals it's back in December

Cradle To Grave is returning for a second series in December, writer Danny Baker has announced.

He revealed the news on Twitter tonight - almost two years since the BBC executive Danny Cohen announced it had been commissioned as series one came to an end.

The lengthy delay was apparently caused by trying to lock down Peter Kay to commit to the show.

Baker even auditioned other actors to replace him in the role of Spud, The Sun reported tonight.

‘We had to have a plan B so we tried auditioning alternatives,’ Baker said. ‘We looked at Chas Smith from Madness. Al Murray’s name came up too.

But Baker admitted Kay is ‘so good, he’s the only one who can really play Spud.’

Cradle To Grave is based on Baker’s memoirs of a child growing up in 1970s South London. Laurie Kynaston  plays the young version of Baker,  and Kay plays his dad’.

According to Baker’s tweet, Cradle To Grave will return on Monday December 11.

It is almost unheard of for broadcasters to announced such specific scheduling plans more than two or three weeks in advance, so there is a chance that date could change.

Kay may have found time after announcing that he is will be making no more Car Shares for BBC One.
