Bill Cosby to tell youngsters how to avoid sex charges

(Lesson 1: Don't assault anybody)

Bill Cosby wants to tour America speaking to young people about sexual assault.

The comedian says he wants to ‘get back to work’ after his criminal prosecution for allegedly drugging and assaulting Andrea Constand ended in mistrial.

And his representatives mean the plans include so-called ‘town hall’ meetings where Cosby will talk about how youngsters might avoid facing accusations of sexual assault.

Appearing on a TV news show in Alabama, Cosby spokesperson Andrew Wyatt said: ‘This issue can affect any young person, especially young athletes of today. And they need to know what they’re facing when they’re hanging out and partying, when they’re doing certain things they shouldn’t be doing.’

His colleague Ebonee Benson added:  ‘Laws are changing The statute of limitations for victims of sexual assault are being extended. So, this is why people need to be educated on – a brush against a shoulder…. anything, at this point, can be considered sexual assault, and it’s a very good thing to be educated about the law.’

Prosecutors have indicated they intend to go for a new trial, after the last one ended in jury deadlock.

One juror told ABC News that they jury was 10-2 in favour of convicting Cosby on two counts of aggravated indecent assault, but  a different juror said votes were generally split along 7-5 lines.

Cosby has been accused of inappropriate behaviour by almost 60 women, but this was the only one to make it to trial. Most allegations date back too long to be admissible.

The comedian has denied all of the accusations.

Jodi Omear, of American anti-sexual violence organisation RAINN said:’"It would be more useful if Mr Cosby would spend time talking with people about how not to commit sexual assault in the first place.’
