Trigger Happy TV is returning to Channel 4 for a one-off Christmas Eve special.

The 30-minute episode follows Dom Joly’s revival of the hidden-camera format for on-demand service All 4 this autumn.

A selection of sketches from that series will be mixed with additional Christmas scenes for the new episode, which will air at 11pm.

Trade website Broadcastnow reports that Trigger Happy is the most-popular original commission on All 4, claiming more than 1million views.

The show originally aired on Channel 4 from 2000 to 2003.

Earlier on Christmas Eve, at 9pm, Channel 4 will air an 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown special featuring Kathy Burke and Russell Howard as guest players and Joe Lycett  in Dictionary Corner.

A new year special on December 30 will feature Johnny Vegas and Sara Pascoe, with David O'Doherty in Dictionary Corner.

The channel will air its annual Big Fat Quiz Of The Year at 9pm on Boxing Day with Jimmy Carr asking questions of panellists Richard Ayoade, Rob Delaney, Mel Giedroyc, Sarah Millican, David Mitchell and Romesh Ranganathan.

And there’s an Alan Carr’s Christmas Chatty Man on Christmas Day at 10.30pm featuring guests iGary Barlow, Dannii Minogue, Martin Kemp, and Tom Daley, plus music from Emeli Sandé and Robbie Williams.
