Is Victoria Coren Mitchell the new Jeremy Clarkson?
It could be the antidote to the laddish feel of Top Gear – but Radio 4 is launching a new comedy talk show called Women Talking About Cars.
Victoria Coren Mitchell will interview Dawn French in the first episode of what’s described as a ‘funny, offbeat’ series.
The BBC says the show is will ‘look at a famous woman’s life through cars: her first car, her worst car, her favourite car, the journeys she’s made, the journeys she hasn’t, the people she’s met en route and the rude things she’s shouted in traffic jams.’
In a newspaper article earlier this year, Coren Mitchell admitted she didn’t care too much about cars, admitting that although she had many emotional moments in vehicles. ‘I remember so little about the cars and so much about what happened in them’ – including the make of her first car.
‘The car is where I always cried and shouted,’ she added: ‘It’s where I went to do those things; it was the means of running away and also the destination.’
Episode one is being recorded in front of a studio audience in London at the end of the month. Click here for free tickets.
The series might also have been inspired by the success of Jerry Seinfeld’s web series, Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee, which discusses the cars as part of the wider conversations.
