Sky confirms new Julia Davis comedy

Campsite sitcom called Robin's Test

Sky Atlantic has confirmed Julia Davis’s new campsite-based sitcom, called Robin’s Test.

In October Chortle reported that the Hunderby and Nighty Night creator was making her full directorial debut with the series, which she also writes and stars in.

The six-part comedy is about a group of couples on a birthday camping trip to Dorset.

Davis plays party girl Fay, who arrives with the newly separated Tom, played by her Hunderby co-star Rufus Jones.

Vicki Pepperdine and Steve Pemberton, play another couple, and Desperate Housewives’ Jonathan Cake and Stella’s Liz Berrington a third, while the campsite owner is played by David Bamber.

Davis said: ‘I am very, very excited to making another series for Sky Atlantic thanks to the great creative freedom and support of Zai Bennett [director of Sky Atlantic] and Lucy Lumsden [Sky’s outgoing head of comedy.’

Bennett called Davis’s work ‘sublime’

Robin’s Test is a Baby Cow Production and is produced by Ted Dowd, who previously worked on Moone Boy, Gavin and Stacey and Mid Morning Matters with Alan Partridge.

Davis is also about to appear Channel 4’s forthcoming breakfast television sitcom Morning Has Broken with Friends’ David Schwimmer and her co-writer Nick Mohammed.

Davis’s only previous directing credit is her episode of Sky’s Little Crackers in 2010.
