Frankie Boyle, Jason Manford and Ardal O'Hanlon are to perform in one of the Rugby World Cup Fanzones this autumn. The sites will show the matches on a big screen in a festival atmosphere, but on three days where there are no fixtures, comedy will be staged at the Fanzone in Richmond Old Deer Park in West London, which has a capacity of 5,000. AMY POEHLER is to star as a basketball coach in her next movie, according to Hollywood website Deadline, although other details of the project are scant.

THE dates have been announced for next year's Altitude Comedy Festival in the Austrian Alps. Comics will descend on Mayrhofen from January 11 to 15, more than two months earlier in the skiing and snowboarding season than usual. No line-ups have yet been announced.

AMERICA's FX network has axed its sitcom The Comedians after one season. The show starred Billy Crystal as a veteran comedian reluctantly paired with upstart comic (Josh Gads) for a TV sketch show. Executive producer Ben Wexler broke the news on Twitter, saying: 'The Comedians is cancelled at FX. I could not be more proud of the work we all did.'

IMPROV troupe the Noise Next Door are pioneering a new social media app called Clip Dash, which enables users to embed comments in YouTube videos before sharing them. The comics will be adding their comments to one clip a day via the app, which is available for iPhones and iPads. Example.
