James Corden 'to host US talk show'

Tipped to succeed Craig Ferguson

James Corden is to become an American talk-show host, according to reports from the States.

Website The Wrap reports that the Gavin & Stacey star is to take over the Late Late Show on CBS.

He will replace Scots-born Craig Ferguson, who has hosted the show since 2005 but announced in April that he would be retiring by the end of the year.

The website quoted an unnamed ‘individual with knowledge of the situation’ as the source.

Other names who have been touted as possible replacement on the show – which airs at 12.35am – had included sitcom stars Joel McHale, from Community, and Neil Patrick Harris, from How I Met Your Mother.

Ferguson quit after Late Show host David Letterman's announced he would be retiring. The Scot has been touted as a possible replacement, but Stephen Colbert was chosen instead.

Corden is not especially well known in the States, although The Wrong Mans was aired on on-demand service Hulu, and he has appeared on Broadway in both The History Boys and One Man, Two Guvnors, the latter of which earned him a Tony Award.
