Cast announced for topical kids' show

CBBC has announced the cast of its new topical news spoof, DNN.

Comic Will Andrews will star as hopeless news anchor Bob Roberts, who presents the news alongside the much sharper Felicity Bond, played by US actress Kelly-Anne Lyons – best known as the lead in Dick and Dom’s Funny Business.

Each episode will be based on the week’s news and promises ‘plenty of physical comedy, running gags, catchphrases and silly humour [plus] sketches based on topical events’.

Other correspondents familiar from the live comedy circuit include Cariad Lloyd, Gemma Arrowsmith, Edinburgh Comedy Award best newcomer nominee Sam Fletcher and Victoria Cook, who won the BBC new talent competition Jesting About 2.

The regular cast is completed by Marvyn Dickinson as ‘dogged reporter’, Phil Tyme, Susan Harrison as a string of fictitious bloggers and Mawaan Rizwan as Jahmene Mann.

As Chortle reported last month, DNN will be script edited by David Quantick, whose credits include the notably more adult spoof current affairs show Brass Eye and an online sitcom about heroin junkies... as well as more age-appropriate shows such as Harry Hill’s TV Burp.

Other writers include Daniel Maier; Jason Hazely and Joel Morris; Stuart Kenworthy ; Ciaran Murtagh and Andrew Jones; and James Harris and Marc Blakewill.

The 13-part series will be broadcast on CBBC soon.
