Dreaming of a Brown Christmas

BBC One orders two Mrs Brown specials

BBC One has announced Mrs Brown’s Boys will return for two Christmas specials this December.

The news comes after it was reported that the show would be off air for up to two years because of creator Brendan O’Carroll’s other commitments – including a Mrs Brown movie.

The third series, currently airing on Monday nights, has been attracting more than seven million viewers to each episode – a figure that doubles when all platforms are added to the overnight figures. And it was the most watched show on Christmas Eve, with 8.8 million viewers.

Mark Freeland, BBC’s head of comedy, says: ‘Last Christmas Agnes Brown was stuck halfway up the Christmas tree. This year in every way she will be the star at the very top’

O’Carroll added: ‘I'm thrilled that the BBC has asked us to be part of its Christmas again this year. It's a great privilege to be invited into people's homes at such a magical time of year.’

The television series also features Brendan’s real-life wife Jennifer Gibney as Agnes’s daughter Cathy, his daughter Fiona as Maria, his son Danny as Buster and his sister Eilish as Winnie McGoogan.
