Sketch actor Ed gets big break in US sitcom

British comic and actor Ed Weeks could be poised for US stardom thanks to a new sitcom.

The comedian – one half of sketch double act Tommy And The Weeks – plays a charmingly seductive Hugh Grant-style doctor in the new show It’s Messy.

The Fox network has picked up the show for a series after a successful pilot.

It has been created by Mindy Kaling, best known for playing Kelly Kapoor on the American version of The Office. In It’s Messy, she stars as a ‘Bridget-Jones type’ doctor struggling wit her personal and professional lives.

The Office's Howard Klein will executive produce alongside Kaling and her now-former co-star, BJ Novak.

Weeks, who has had small roles in The IT Crowd and My Family in the UK, will play a character called Jeremy, who is romantically involved with Kaling. The show will air from the autumn.
