Seinfeld and Gervais, together again?

New car series in the pipeline

Ricky Gervais is teaming up with new pal Jerry Seinfeld for a new TV series about cars.

Avid motor enthusiast Seinfeld is putting together a show called Comics And Cars, and has also invited Alec Baldwin and former writing partner Larry David to take part. In each episode, they will test drive cars from their youth and trade stories and laughs.

The show has not yet been commissioned by a network, and it has been reported that it may end up as an internet series.

Seinfeld has tweeted hints about what he calls the ‘New Seiny Gig’, and suggested that he and Larry David were driving a 1952 Vokswagen.

Seinfeld is a huge car nut owning a reported 46 Porsches, including the the first and last original Porsche 911s produced. The centerpiece is a $700,000 Porsche 959, one of only 337 ever built.

In contrast, Gervais has never much spoken about cars – and in a 2004 interview on the success of The Office said: ‘I don't drive so I haven't bought a flash car.’

Seinfeld – who is playing two UK dates this weekend – has largely remained absent from TV since his self-titled sitcom went off the air in 1998, only making occasional cameos. Last year he joined Gervais, Chris Rock and Louis CK in Talking Funny – a round-table discussion about the art of stand-up.
