Sacha's a dirty, corrupt, lying, fascist racist

If he signs up to new comedy

Sacha Baron Cohen is being lined up to play a corrupt, racist ex-policeman in a new comedy movie.

He has been approached to star in a Hollywood remake of the Spanish Torrente film, which has proved such a success that it has so far spawned two sequels with a third on its way.

Madrid comedian Santiago Segura created the lead character Jose Luis Torrente, a renegade policeman who sets up a neighbourhood patrol after being fired by his local force, but is considered a nuisance. Wikipedia describes the Franco-loving character as ‘ugly, bald, overweight, dirty, corrupt, lying, fascist, racist [and] chauvinistic’.

According to the LA Times, New Line Cinema is developing the American version, which is being penned by Alec Berg, Jeff Schaffer and David Mandel. They are keen to get Cohen on board, although he is yet to sign up. The trio are former Seinfeld writers who are also working on The Dictator, Cohen's next film about a goat herder who looks like a despot.

Cohen is next set to play Freddie Mercury in a new film based around Queen’s rise to top.
