Paula Abdul: Bruno spoofed me

...but she's only just twigged

Paula Abdul has admitted she was duped by Sacha Baron Cohen for his new Bruno film.

The American Idol judge confessed she was taken in by the ‘flaming’ Austrian fashionista after being told she had won an Artist of the Year award in Germany.

But she said she never twigged it was a wind-up until last month – even though she suspected something was wrong the moment she was asked to take a seat… on a crouching Mexican man,

She told an American radio station: ‘This guy Bruno introduces himself. He snaps his fingers and says, “Gardeners!”

‘And these two Mexican guys come in, and they drop down to all fours. I see him paying them like 10 bucks, and he says, “Sit down.” And I said, “I’m not doing that!”’

Abdul said she felt ‘uncomfortable’ when Bruno kicked one of the Mexicans. ‘I said, “Get me out of here. This is crazy. This is not funny, this is discrimination. This is abusive stuff.”’

She stormed out of the interview, but only recently realised she had been stitched up when a reporter called her about the incident – and even then she told the journalist: ‘I've never done anything with Sacha Cohen.’

But she said: ‘At 2 o'clock in the morning, I woke up in a cold sweat and went, “Oh my God!”’
