The Boize done good

Internet comedy transfers to TV

Internet comedy series Toyboize – about a washed-up former teen pop group attempting a comeback – is to transfer to TV.

Digital channel Dave will air the five, five-minute shorts at 11pm every night next week, making it the first made-for-online comedy to transfer to mainstream TV.

It was made by the sketch group Navelgazing – whose members include Ewen MacIntosh and Jamie Deeks from The Office – under a two-year deal with production house Talkback Thames.

Ricky Gervais helped write the show’s theme song I Like You Girl – purportedly the band’s biggest hit from the Eighties.

Producers are hoping to extend the series to 12 episodes, if a broadcaster or commercial partner provides the funding.
