Scared of spoons?

It's the weekly trivia file

  • ‘It’s always a pain in the butt when people are harassing you – and then when you stop it’s even worse.’ Steve Coogan on fame

  • From the Wikipedia page of stand-up Nick Doody, pictured: ‘After a brief stint as a mercenary in Indochina, he now resides in London, England and is understandably scared of spoons.’

  • Anyone fresh from working at the Fringe might have an opinion on this, but Edinburgh has just been named the most miserable place in Britain. It was followed by Manchester in the research into wellbeing. Powys is apparently the most cheerful place because it is more ‘socially cohesive’ than big cities.

  • Paul Daniels says it’s racist NOT to do racist jokes. ‘If I don’t do a joke about an Indian, a black fellow or a Chinaman it is racist to leave them out,’ he says.

  • Katy Brand has a theology degree and used to be in a Christian youth group, but says ‘as soon as I realised all the answers to everything in life aren’t in the Bible I was no longer welcome’.

  • From the imdb.com page of stand-up Nick Doody: ‘Is the owner of a very large collection of ladies’ hats. At the last count he owns over 200 hats, including 40 pill boxes.’

  • Ricky Gervais has been raging at the Independent for reporting that he ate a fruit salad at The Ivy as part of a ‘strict new dieting regime’ because Hollywood has made him flustered at his weight. On his own blog, he points out that the salad – that came with ice cream – was part of a meal that included deep-fried scampi, a Thai green curry with rice and bread. ‘What sort of sad cunt watches someone eat a meal and then phones in selected highlights to a newspaper?,’ he said. ‘I'll tell you. The cunt that was sitting next to our table who kept trying to strike up conversations with us about the food.’

  • This week’s stand-up gig from hell. Skip to about 2’ 30” to see the start of the long crash:

  • ‘I like to wear tight clothes and think meself all sexy’ Russell Brand

  • Stand-up Nick Doody says: ‘My brother is obsessed with vandalising pages about me.’
