Brand signs £1.5m publishing deal

US release for memoirs

Russell Brand’s bestselling autobiography is to be released in the US following a new publishing deal reported to be worth $3million (£1.54million) .

Under the new contract, HarperCollins will publish the award-winning My Booky Wook in the States in the winter of 2009.

The long-term deal demonstrates a confidence that Brand will be able to sustain his new-found US fame, following his role in Hollywood movie comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

For their money, HarperCollins has also secured the global English-language rights to Brand’s follow-up volume, which will be released in the UK in time for this year’s Christmas market. The publisher intends to release the sequel in the US, too, although no date has yet been set.

My Booky Wook sold more than 600,000 hardback copies in the UK, and topped the Sunday Times bestseller list for seven consecutive weeks. Plans to make it into a film have recently been dropped.
