Comics exhibit themselves

Stand-up gig in a museum

Museum visitors will find stand-ups performing amid the exhibits one day next month.

Nine comedians will be cracking jokes at the Museum of London, as part of a drive to bring comedy to unusual places.

Those taking part in the July 5 experiment include Richard Herring, Simon Munnery, Sarah Kendall and Howard Read.

It is the latest in the Laughterinoddplaces initiative, set up in October last year by comedian Terry Saunders and promoter Tom Searle.

Inspired by tales of bands doing gigs in launderettes in New York, they have already staged surprise shows in a library, a charity shop and an art gallery, and laid an adventure trail across Hampstead Heath to a gig next to a bandstand.

If.comeddie best newcomer Josie Long described the movement as ‘the closest you can get to being in a secret society. It feels full of wonder and excitement.’

The Museum Of London event, which is free, starts at 6.30pm and ends at 9pm.
