Star-studded thank-you to son's carers
Jim Tavare is organising a star-studded charity gig to thank the hospital that treated his eight-year-old son’s cancer.The star of ITV’s The Sketch Show has attracted the likes of Al Murray, Alistair McGowan and Harry Hill to the fundraiser.
In May last year, Tavare’s son was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Burkitt's Lymphoma, and underwent months of treatment at London’s Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.
The comic, who played Tom The Innkeeper in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, said: ‘He had widespread abdominal tumours - one the size of a tennis ball - and disease of the bone marrow.
‘After eight months of chemotherapy, much pain and bravery, he pulled through in time for Christmas.’
‘I’m putting together his benefit as a way of saying thank you to Great Ormond Street and to raise awareness of the disease.’
The Stranglers have also agreed to perform an acoustic set at the gig at Jongleurs Battersea, and other comics on the bill include Dominic Holland, Boothby Graffoe, Ricky Grover and Phil Nichol
