From League Of Gents to Cinderella

League Of Gentlemen writer Jeremy Dyson is to adapt the Cinderella fairytale for a ‘contemporary’ BBC drama series.

The Fairy Tales anthology follows in the corporation’s its Shakespeare Re-Told and Canterbury Tales seasons.

Alongside Dyson, Outlaws writer Steve Coombs will adapt Billy Goat Gruff while Cutting It’s Debbie Horsfield will rework The Emperor's New Clothes and. One further writer and story are yet to be announced

Patrick Spence, head of drama at BBC Northern Ireland, which will make the shows, said: ‘We're in seventh heaven with this commission - four great writers bringing four great stories to life in a thoroughly modern way.’

Casting and filming will start in the summer of 2007, ready for broadcast next autumn.

The show will be co-produced by independent production house Hat Trick, the company behind Have I Got News For You
