Walk all over them

Comics hailed on UK's 'Walk Of Fame'

Ricky Gervais, Billy Connolly and John Cleese are among the stars to be immortalised in a new British version of Hollywood's Walk Of Fame.

ITV is to honour 100 celebrities in the Avenue Of The Stars, outside the actor's church St Paul's, in London’s Covent Garden.

But the tributes, comprising stars set into the pavement, will not be limited to names linked to the  commercial TV network.

The first 16 names were announced yesterday as part of ITV's 50th birthday celebrations, and they also include performers from Commonwealth countries.

Other comics to receive the honour will include Tommy Cooper, The Two Ronnies, Dame Edna Everage and Charlie Chaplin.

The full list will be unveiled by Chris Tarrant in a TV  show  next month.
