Toby or not Toby?

Foster in line for radio award

Yorkshire stand-up Toby Foster has been nominated for a top local radio award for his afternoon show on BBC Radio Sheffield.

The comic has made the shortlist for best programme presenter in this year's BBC Frank Gillard awards, named after the founder of BBC local radio, who died in 1998.

Danny Baker of BBC London and Ian Robinson and Paul Wappat of Radio Newcastle are contesting the same category.

The awards will be presented by BBC director general Greg Dyke and BBC Asian Network's Sonia Deol at the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television in Bradford on October 6.

More than 300 hundred nominations were put forward from 44 local radio stations in 14 categories.

BBC Radio Derby leads the nominations, with a total of five.
