Izzard: The next stage

Eddie takes another New York role

Eddie Izzard is to again star on the New York stage, just weeks after making his Broadway acting debut.

The comic is to appear in Trumbo, a piece based on the letters of blacklisted Hollywood screenwriter Dalton Trumbo.

Compiled by Trumbo's son Christopher, the play will have a rotating cast of stars playing the title role.

Izzard's appearance had been in doubt, as it would have breached the terms of his contract for A Day In The Death Of Joe Egg, which is currently running on Broadway.

But this has now been resolved, and Izzard will take to the Westside Theatre stage from May 5.

Trumbo, whose credits include Spartacus, was jailed in 1947 after standing up to up to the House Un-American Activities Committee.

A portion of the show's box office takings will go to the free speech group People for the American Way.

Izzard has also announced that he will not now be appearing in the Harvey Keitel heist film Red Light Runners, as previously announced. He blamed a hectic work schedule.
