Ed buys Prince guitar for £12,000

Ed Byrne has brought one of Prince's old guitars for £12,000.

The purple Telecaster-style guitar, right, elaborately decorated with airbrushed flowers, was custom-made for the star's 1984/5 Purple Rain Tour.

It went under the hammer at London auctioneers Cooper Owen yesterday as part of an auction of rock and pop memorabilia.

Tapes of a rambling John Lennon discussing the Beatles splitting were not sold after failing to meet the reserve price of £15,000.
