Premier derision

Hislop pens PM comedy

Robert Bathurst is set to play the prime minister in a new comedy series by Ian Hislop (pictured).

The BBC1 show My Dad's The Prime Minister will depict the life of a fictional premier from the point of view of his 11-year-old son.

The son, Dillon, is forever embarrassed by the actions of his hapless father.

Although fictional, the character is likely to draw parallels with Tony Blair's son Euan.

However, the Cold Feet star has yet to sign on the dotted line.

"I have seen two scripts and they keep telling me they want me for the part but I just haven't had it confirmed yet," Bathurst told MediaGuardian.

The show was commissioned by the BBC's comedy and children's drama departments the first time the two have worked together.

My Dad's The Prime Minister is scheduled for broadcast next year.
