Marenghi signs TV deal

Channel 4 has signed up Perrier Award winner Garth Marenghi.

The deal, struck at the Montreux festival, will see the spoof horror writer develop projects for the screen, but no specific details of shows have been announced.

Marenghi said, "I am cock-a-hoop that Channel 4 are treating the horror genre with the respect it deserves. Together we will peel back the layers of your mind until the brains fall out."

Jon Thoday, Managing Director of Avalon Television, which will make the programmes, said: "I am delighted to see Channel 4 putting their full weight behind the extraordinary talent of Garth Marenghi."

And Danielle Lux, Channel 4 Head of Entertainment, added: "This is a time of exiting new beginnings for entertainment at Channel 4 and I am delighted to welcome one of the UK's best new writers and performers."

Garth Marenghi - the creation of Matt Holness and Richard Ayoade - won the Perrier last year for his show Netherhead.
