Stanley Unwin dies at 90

Delivering sorrowful newsness on all-gathering. Tis deeply sadlode.

'Professor' Stanley Unwin, famous for creating his own nonsense language, has died at the age of 90.

Unwin found fame in the Forties for his twisted lingo, but his career spanned decades.

He died peacefully on Saturday at the Danetre Hospital in Daventry, Northamptonshire, his agent said today.

One of the South Africa-born comedian's biggest fans was Tommy Cooper, who once described him as "bleeding barmy".

He appeared in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Carry On Regardless, the Norman Wisdom film Press For Time, and on The Faces 1967 track Ogden's Nut Gone Flake.

His last role was voicing a character in Rex The Runt in 1998.
