Rare recordings of Kenny Everett's humour are among the gems uncovered by the BBC's Treasure Hunt, it has emerged.

Although the corporation has heralded the return of two long-lost episodes of Dad's Army, a wealth of other archive material was recovered through the appeal.

Everett worked at a number of local BBC stations win his early days. And although most did not keep tapes, a wealth of material has been found.

Extracts from his stints at Radios Nottingham, Mereseyside, Medway and Bristol are among the tapes unearthed.

Radio Bristol presenter Rob Salvidge was among those who contributed recordings, which he taped as a 13-year-old schoolboy, BBC staff magazine Ariel reports.

The material will now form part of a tribute to the comic to be broadcast on Radio Merseyside on Boxing Day.
