Sketch Show attracts 3m

Vaughan sitcom also fares well

Opening episodes The Sketch Show and Johnny Vaughan's sitcom 'orrible both proved reasonable ratings hits last night.

According to unofficial overnight figures, 3.1million viewers tuned into ITV's first sketch comedy.

Lee Mack, Tim Vine, Ronni Ancona, Jim Tavare and Karen Taylor attracted 23 per cent of the available audience to their 10.30pm show, produced by comedy giants Avalon and Steve Coogan's company Baby Cow.

And earlier in the evening, 'orrible - co-written by Vaughan and Ed Allen, son of comic Dave - was seen by 2.5m viewers.

The figure represents a 12 per cent audience share, which is good for a BBC2 show, although it was beaten by a Channel 4 biography of Henry VIII, on at the same time, which attracted 3.7million viewers.
