Jerry Springer: The Opera

Stewart Lee directs new work

Stewart Lee is to direct a new opera - based on the Jerry Springer show.

The work, which features more than a dozen classically trained singers, is the brainchild of Richard Thomas, whose Tourette's Diva singers appeared on BBC2's Attention Scum with Simon Munnery.

This run of performances is partly work in progress, with some shows incorporating new material written by Lee.

He said: "The work will be, to an extent, unfinished. The purpose of these shows is to try to raise money to stage it on a Lion King-size budget."

Jerry Springer: The Opera takes place at the Battersea Arts Centre in London from August 21
