Nina Conti

Date of birth: 25-08-1973

The daughter of actors Tom Conti and Kara Wilson, Nina Conti initially followed in their footsteps and became part of the Royal Shakespeare Company. However she found it was not for her, and with the encouragement of her mentor Ken Campbell took up ventriloquism on the London comedy circuit, with her puppet sidekick, Monkey.

In 2002, she won the BBC New Comedy Award – though it took her five more years to make her debut with her first solo full-length show, Complete and Utter Conti. The following years she won the Barry Award for this show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, tying with Kristen Schaal.

Acting roles include Black Books, Holby City,  Christopher Guest's 2006 film, For Your Consideration and 2013 mockumentary series  Family Tree.

Brits land roles in This Is Spinal Tap sequel

Nina Conti, Kerry Godliman and Chris Addison

British comedians Nina Conti, Kerry Godliman  and Chris Addison have been cast in the sequel to This Is Spinal Tap.

Details of their roles have not yet been revealed, but they were named in a casting announcement on Deadline.

Conti previously worked with Spinal Tap’s Christopher Guest on his TV comedy series Family Tree, where she appeared with her ventriloquist puppet Monkey.

It was also announced that The Nanny star Fran Drescher  will join the sequel to 1984 cult classic, reprising her role as publicist Bobbi Flekman.

Shooting on the show has started in New Orleans with  Rob Reiner again directing and Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer all reprising their roles as the legendary heavy metal band.

Reiner will also return as the documentarian Martin ‘Marty’ DiBergi following  England’s ‘loudest and most punctual band’, as they reunite for one final concert after a 15-year hiatus.

Also joining the cast are Don Lake, John Michael Higgins, Jason Acuña, Griffin Matthews, comedian Brad Williams, and musician Paul Shaffer, best known for being David Letterman’s bandleader for more than 30 years.

• Brett Goldstein is to appear in the second series of Apple TV’s comedy-drama Shrinking, which he co-created, Deadline also reports.  The show stars Jason Segel as a grieving therapist with co-stars including Harrison Ford and Jessica Williams. Goldstein previously won two Emmy Awards for his supporting role as Roy Kent in Ted Lasso.
